Tiombe uses her superpower to expand the horizons of young people in the West Side of Chicago.  Through her volunteer work at the Garfield Park Conservatory, she has helped educate hundreds of young people through her presentations about plants and conservation.  
 
Nicole doesn’t need to know every language to be able to communicate with young people around the world.  One of 100 international youth selected to participate in Jane Goodall’s Global Youth Summit in April 2008, Nicole uses her passion for connecting people to inspire her colleagues to take action. In 2009, she collaborated with her Roots & Shoots group to raise money for Kiva, an organization that provides microloans to women around the world so they can start their own businesses.
 
Anthony’s superpower doesn’t stop with helping little old ladies cross the street. He volunteers at after-school programs in Casa Colina and Bon View Elemenary with the program Think Together.
 
Kai doesn’t just wish to make the world into a better place, he’s doing it. The leader of two Roots & Shoots groups in Northern California, Kai is a constant crusader for the people, animals and environment. From beach clean-ups to calling state representatives, Kai is truly changing the world around him.
 
While Mayra may want more waking hours to improve her community, she’s doing pretty well right now despite the nightly eight.  Using art as a way to bring community members together, she also studies at the local university and is active in her Roots & Shoots group.  It’s obvious that her creative juices never sleep.
 
Well on her way to becoming the world’s greatest lawyer, Idessa works every day to empower young people in her community. She leads workshops on issues facing teens, such as bullying. Idessa hopes that her workshops will inspire peers to speak up about topics that they are passionate about and get involved. 
 
Ashley wishes that she could read minds to help everyone to get along. Even without this superpower, Ashley is getting people together.  Through her step team and her Roots & Shoots group, she is showing everyone that teamwork and collaboration are the best way to get things done.
 
Tara has been communicating with animals through science almost since birth. A firm believer that science should be used to help animals, she researched the population dynamics of the blue crab in the Chesapeake Bay with an eye toward helping this species recover.  She is currently studying the role of fungi in the world’s amphibian decline, and hopes to find a cure that will save frogs and salamanders from extinction.
 
Mitch moves so fast that it seems like he's flying from place to place already!  Mitch can be seen at the Statehouse in Lincoln and at Salt Creek working with the endangered Salt Creek Tiger Beetle. In the afternoon you can find him at the mayor’s house at an Environmental Advisory Committee meeting.
 
You can find Katia where ever there is an animal that needs a helping hand. A passionate advocate for all kinds of animals, Katia has spent time volunteering and working with the Humane Society of the United States, Orphan Acres (a horse sanctuary) and Green Chimneys. 
 
Some might call Lisa a know-it-all because of her wish to possess all knowledge, but it’s precisely this curiosity that motivates her start new projects. Currently, Lisa is doing amazing work educating others about the causes and consequences of global warming, but don’t be surprised if you soon find Lisa coming up with a new project idea!  
 
Hanna wants to cure all the diseases that plague people—and she might! This active Roots & Shoots member wants to be a pediatrician. Hanna has been included in three of the Roots & Shoots national campaigns and she enjoys working with people in her community and around the globe as they try to make the world a better place. 
 
Emily doesn’t have to actually fly for young people in her community to look up to her.  A longtime Roots & Shoots member, Emily is working with fellow group member Laurel to start and mentor a Roots & Shoots group at a local elementary school.
 
Laurel loves the ocean and all of its creatures. Working with fellow Roots & Shoots member Emily, she is passing on this love to her local elementary school by starting and mentoring a Roots & Shoots group.
 
Emily helps others realize their hidden potential through Roots & Shoots.  The regional program manager for Roots & Shoots Four Corners, she helps groups across the Southwest in their efforts to better their communities. With her kindness and gentle spirit Emily is also the perfect mentor for the Four Corners Youth Leadership Council, helping them to use their voices in support of issues about which they are passionate.
